Megan was kind enough to give me some of the hass avocados that her aunt mailed her from Texas, which marks the first decent avocado I have had in four months.

Classiest Friday Night Ever

Students at MIT can get free tickets to the Boston Symphony Orchestra on certain dates. Taking advantage of this, I saw them perform Messiaen, Boulez, and Berlioz, which to my understanding were all French composers. The first part was sounded like something modern with obnoxiously loud gong-clashes. The second two pieces included the string sessions, which I enjoyed more. To be honest, I dosed off once or twice. They dimmed the lights and I was tired, so I couldn't help it...

Head of the Charles Regatta

The Head of the Charles is the largest two-day regatta in the world! I don't know how many two-day regattas there are in the world, but it seemed like a big event. I saw crew teams from Westpoint, the US Naval Academy, Stanford, Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth and MIT, along with international schools like Oxford. Me and Megan jogged down the entire length of the race, from the BU bridge to down somewhere past Harvard, which was like 3 miles. Peopled lined up along the river and across bridges to watch the rowers.





It was similar to the Fourth of July, with tents set up selling stuff along the river once you neared the end. Once we stopped running, I froze my butt off since I was in jogging attire in the low 50's and a windchill along the river. It was first time I was able to see fall colors coming in, so I ended up taking more pictures of trees than boats. I hear you don't get to see the full effect unless you drive outside the city.

The class average on this last calculus test was an 87, which is bad news for my 80.

The Cold, Horrible Photography, and Elephants

Once or twice a year the circus comes to town. They bring elephants on trains, and in order to get them across the river into Boston , Massachusetts Avenue is shut down so they can parade the elephants into the city. A crowd gathered to watch all this at 8pm.


I had pictured a scene from Aladdin or the Lion King, but what I got was an hour long wait out in the freezing cold to get a minute and a half glimpse of these elephants, horses, and ponies that didn't look like they were having much of a good time either. It was also too dark to get a decent picture with my camera. I guess the odd sight of elephants walking down the street in Cambridge counts for something though. The strangest thing I had seen traveling down Massachusetts Avenue prior to this was a guy dressed up as Abraham Lincoln riding a segway scooter.
